Create a Cool Water Reflection Effect Using Photoshop

Create a realistic water reflection effect of your image by following this tutorial.

  1. Open image in Photoshop.

  2. Duplicate layer by pressing Ctrl + J.
  3. Adjust canvass size. Click Image > Canvass Size
    Height: 100 Percent; Width: 0; Make sure the Relative option is checked. From the 3×3 grid, click the middle of the top row.

  4. Click Edit > Transform > Flip Vertical

  5. Using the Move Tool, drag the flipped image to the bottom.

  6. Add a new blank layer.
  7. Fill the blank layer with White.

  8. Set the Foreground color to White; Set Background color to black;
  9. Click Filter > Sketch > Halftone Pattern.
    Pattern Type: Line; Size: 7; Contrast: 50;

  10. Click Filter > Blur > Gausian Blur.
    Radius: 4.0 pixels

  11. Click Layer > Duplicate Layer. From the Destination section of the Duplicate Layer window, set the Document as “New”.
  12. Save the file as ripple.psd. then close the document.
  13. Delete the lines layer.
  14. Press Ctrl + Shift + Alt + E to merge the two layers onto a new layer.

  15. Click Filter > Distort > Displace ..
    Horizontal Scale: 4; Vertical Scale: 0; Displacement Map: Stretch to Fit; Undefined Areas: Repeat Edge Pixels;
    Choose the ripple.psd.

  16. Press Ctrl then click on the thumbnail of Layer 1. From Layer 2, click the Layer Mask.

  17. Click the thumbnail of the layer mask of Layer 2. Click Filter > Blur > Gausian Blur.
    Radius: 4.0 pixels.

  18. With the layer mask of Layer 2 still selected, press Alt then click on the New Adjustment Layer icon at the bottom of the layers pallete, then select Hue/Saturation. Make sure the “Use Previous Layer to Create Clipping Mask” checkbox is checked. After clicking OK, set the Hue to 218 and check the Colorize checkbox.

  19. Set the Opacity to 25% and you’re done.
